Leadership

Castroville Community Church is an elder-lead Christian community.

Pastor:

Elder David Simonson is the founder and pastor of Castroville Community Church. He received his undergraduate degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX.  He was mentored into the pastorate by his pastors Dr. Jon Green, Oakwood Community Church, Dr. Doug Marks, Northwest Hills Church, and Robert Graham, MDiv., Redbird Community Church.  Ultimately he received his ordination from the leaders and community of Redbird Community Church in San Antonio, TX in 2015.

David has been married to Blythe since 2001 and together they have five of the most intelligent, generous, lovely and handsome children in the world.  Oh, and they also have a spoiled little dachshund named Oliver and the meanest cat you’ve ever met named Nom Nom.  They’ve called Castroville, TX their home since 2015.

Board President:

Elder David Cowan, USAF retired, is President of the Board of Directors. David dedicated his life to the Lord in 1989 and has volunteered in various Christian Church roles throughout his Air Force career.  He served as an Elder and Awana leader at Evers Road Christian Church in San Antonio.  With his wife, Shannon, of 26 years, he taught children's classes at Merrimack Valley Baptist Church in New Hampshire.  Before joining Castroville Community Church, he served on the Board at Redbird Community Church on the west side of San Antonio. David and Shannon have two grown children, Zoie and Noah, and a fur baby named Toby who has become a surrogate grandbaby.

Board Treasurer:

Elder Shannon Cowan is the Board Treasurer.  Shannon gave her life to the Lord at a young age and has the gift of Service.  She has always been drawn to children’s ministries in each church home the Air Force called the Cowans to serve in.  She’s also got a keen eye for organization and detail, making her a great asset for both community and church volunteer organizations she’s served with over the years.

Hosts:

Paul, USAF retired & Krystal Carpenter: Waffle Wednesday Hosts. If you haven’t yet met the Carpenters you will! Their warm hospitality is contagious. In 2022 their heart for service led them to open their home to our Youth Group and their families for our Waffle Wednesday gatherings. After retiring from the Air Force in 2017 they settled in San Antonio and have been a blessing to the Christian community ever since. Married in 2004, they have four very active children, a mess of cats and a dog that keeps them all on their toes. At the Carpenters everyone is someone!
